Hints & Tips
- Don’t assume people will tell you everything that’s going on - keep lines of communication open with all parties.
- Packing and getting rid of unwanted items always takes longer than you’d think. Start planning around 4 weeks before the move date, and packing things you don't use regularly.
- Firstly, we’ll need a place to park outside your house. If we have a long carry to load up, the move will take longer.
- Place a label on anything that is to be left behind in the house.
- Boxes - please try not to overload (too heavy) or underload (easily squashed when stacked).
- If not purchased from us, please try to find suitable boxes – e.g. plates and tools etc. don't go well in boxes designed for crisps.
- Label boxes for rooms, e.g, Bed 1, 2, 3, Lounge..
- Wardrobes - take clothes out of wardrobes. If you use plastic bags for packing them, use strong ones. Weak ones often tear (and people get to see your washing).
- Put coat hangers and shoes in boxes.
- Remove wardrobe doors for ease and safety.
- Don’t forget to empty cupboards.
- Belongings can be left in drawers in place if you wish. We’ll take them out for transportation if we need to.
- Pets - should ideally kept out of the way for their safety and ours. Fish tanks should be drained.
- Electrical Equipment - electric cookers should be disconnected prior to our arrival - health and safety these days requires it.
- Disconnect washing machines and dishwashers.
- Fridges/freezers – try to run down contents in days prior to move. Eggs, bottles, jars and anything not sealed should be boxed and labelled.
- When removing TVs, audio equipment, computers, games equipment etc., label all wires to make reconnection easier.
- Loft - bring items stored in your loft down into a bedroom.
- Dismantling - ideally, any dismantling of goods should be completed before we arrive. This may include some wardrobes, cabin/bunk beds, large/heavy settees, doors on American fridge-freezers.
- If you would like us to do it, please let us know before the removal date. Also if you require it, we will gladly re-assemble the items in your new home.
- Always keep important documents, keys, cheque book, kettle, etc to hand.
